Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry Announces May 27 Fundraiser for the New Mexico Philharmonic
Performance at the KiMo Theatre to Fund Music Library Purchase for the New Orchestra
Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry is leading a plan to raise funds in support of New Mexico’s newest professional orchestra, the New Mexico Philharmonic. The organization of a group to further the cause of symphonic music in Albuquerque and New Mexico was announced last week, and Mayor Berry and a team of supporters are moving quickly to finalize plans for a Red Carpet Gala Fundraiser on Friday, May 27th at 7:30 pm at the historic KiMo Theatre.
Famed flamenco guitarist Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra will perform with the New Mexico Philharmonic at the Red Carpet Gala as well as the two winners of the Jackie McGehee Concerto Competition—violist Laura Steiner and pianist Joshua Rupley.
The City of Albuquerque, realizing the multi-layered value of a symphony orchestra, threw its support behind the new organization. Mayor Berry said, "I cannot imagine Albuquerque, a city that strongly supports the arts, without a top-rate orchestra. For nearly nine decades, Albuquerque's residents and visitors have enjoyed live classical music and I am pleased to learn of the formation of the New Mexico Philharmonic that will keep that tradition going. We support them in creating a new and exciting option for music lovers and look forward to their great success."
Please join the New Mexico Philharmonic and the City of Albuquerque in building an orchestra for the future of Albuquerque and all New Mexico. Attend a concert, donate, or tell a friend about us.
"I think there is real power in the word 'we.' We must. We can. We shall keep alive symphonic music in the state of New Mexico!
